Washington: University of Puget Sound
Based out of Dr. Peter Hodum’s Conservation Ecology Lab at the University of Puget Sound, Oikonos conducts research, education and community outreach projects focused on conserving native species and habitats, from urban green spaces to islands of the outer coast of Washington. The lab also provides support for Oikonos projects in Chile.
History
Dr. Peter Hodum’s joint positions with Oikonos and the University of Puget Sound provide a unique opportunity to leverage the resources and opportunities from both organizations to advance conservation priorities in the Pacific Northwest. We have access to laboratory facilities, equipment, and highly motivated undergraduate research students.

Context
The lab is the center for our Washington-based programs, including marine plastics-related research, seabird ecology and conservation, and urban community-based conservation and education. In addition to the applied conservation research and actions, our affiliation with the University of Puget Sound provides opportunities to advance our mission of educating and training future conservation scientists and practitioners, both on campus and in local communities.

Vision
The Conservation Ecology Lab will continue to serve as a base for our various research, conservation and education programs in the Pacific Northwest, including the training of future conservation practitioners.
Indigenous Land Acknowledgement
We acknowledge that we are living, learning and working on the traditional ancestral, occupied lands of the Puyallup People who have stewarded this land for countless generations. The Puyallup People are still here, continuing to honor and maintain their ancient heritage.
