Por ello, la colaboraci\u00f3n internacional es fundamental para su conservaci\u00f3n. Oikonos ha liderado investigaciones para conocer sus movimientos a lo largo del Pac\u00edfico Norte, desde las colonias reproductivas en H\u014dlanik\u016b (Atol\u00f3n Kure), Kamole (Isla Laysan) y el islote Lehua, hasta su presencia en mar abierto dentro del Santuario Marino Nacional Cordell Bank, frente a la costa de California. Descubrimos la gran importancia de las regiones occidentales del Pac\u00edfico Norte para el Ka\u02bbupu. Los datos de seguimiento revelaron que Jap\u00f3n, Rusia, Canad\u00e1 y Estados Unidos comparten la responsabilidad de proteger a los albatros que transitan sus aguas.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"971\" data-end=\"1638\">El Ka\u02bbupu es la especie que m\u00e1s muertes incidentales sufre en la pesquer\u00eda de palangre en Haw\u00e1i. Desde 2008, Oikonos y la NOAA han gestionado un programa de necropsias para identificar e investigar la demograf\u00eda de las aves marinas encontradas muertas, recuperadas por observadores pesqueros. Adem\u00e1s, este albatros es una especie clave en los programas de investigaci\u00f3n, educaci\u00f3n y prevenci\u00f3n de contaminaci\u00f3n marina de Oikonos. Estas aves marinas longevas suelen poner un huevo cada uno o dos a\u00f1os y a menudo regresan a su colonia natal para encontrar pareja. Sus caracter\u00edsticos bailes de cortejo contribuyen a formar v\u00ednculos duraderos que pueden extenderse por d\u00e9cadas. Algunas aves llegan a vivir y reproducirse por m\u00e1s de 70 a\u00f1os. Mientras recorren grandes distancias en busca de calamares y peces, enfrentan amenazas como enredarse en desechos marinos o quedar atrapadas en redes de pesca de palangre.
