Historia Natural<\/h3>\n

Solo habita el bosque nativo de la isla Robinson Crusoe, donde no existen m\u00e1s de mil ejemplares de esta especie. Posee un notorio dimorfismo sexual, es decir, macho y hembra son muy distintos. El macho tiene coloraciones rojas y la hembra es blanca con verde.<\/p>\n

Nidifica en claros al interior del bosque, \u00fanicamente en la luma de Juan Fern\u00e1ndez (Nothomyrcia fernandeziana)<\/em>, donde la hembra construye el nido con musgos, restos de plantas y telas de ara\u00f1a. Ella tambi\u00e9n alimenta a los polluelos hasta que abandonan el nido.<\/p>\n

Conservaci\u00f3n<\/h3>\n

Las especies invasoras son su principal amenaza. Animales como ratas, gatos y coat\u00edes depredan sobre adultos y polluelos, mientras que las plantas invasoras como la zarzamora y el maqui, modifican y destruyen el bosque nativo que necesitan para sobrevivir.<\/p>\n

Hemos liderado la conservaci\u00f3n de esta especie a trav\u00e9s del control de plantas invasoras para mejorar el h\u00e1bitat reproductivo, as\u00ed como tambi\u00e9n hemos realizado campa\u00f1as de esterilizaci\u00f3n de mascotas y tenencia responsable. Desde hace 11 a\u00f1os hacemos un monitoreo de la temporada reproductiva.<\/p>\n
