Pink-footed Shearwater - Fardela Blanca - Capacity The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, as part of its support for the North American Waterbird Conservation Plan, organized a workshop on monitoring techniques for waterbirds, during the IV North American Ornithological Congress, held in Veracuz, Mexico, on October 2-3, 2006. The goal of this workshop is to build the capacity required for the integrated continental-wide monitoring of waterbirds in the Americas, through the sharing of expertise and training. Oikonos participated in this capacity building effort, by contributing an oral presentation on the methods used for monitoring oceanic birds at-sea, with an emphasis on petrels (order Procellariiformes).
