Chile Disaster Relief - Auxilio para Chile
Help the community on the Juan Fernández
Islands recover from the tsunami that devastated their
town. These families are the main stewards of this amazingly
unique island ecosystem and conservation depends on the health
of the community.

de los efectos del tsunami devastador que arrasó su comunidad.
Update - It has now been over three months since the massive earthquake and subsequent tsunami struck Chile. On Robinson Crusoe Island, the coastal zone of the island's single town was simply erased by the tsunami. Tragically, 16 people lost their life in the disaster. Given that much of the town's infrastructure was located along the coastal fringe of the bay, the community has suffered significant losses, including to the artisanal fishery that is the driver of the local economy. Thankfully, the small seasonal fishing community out on Alejandro Selkirk Island, 180 km west of Robinson Crusoe, was not impacted. Clean-up efforts are ongoing on Robinson. To facilitate these efforts, Oikonos has hired five island residents to work full-time on cleaning up the coastal zone.

Fund for Artisanal Fishing Supplies
Oikonos will give 100% of donations directly to the fund of your choice - Community or Artisinal Fishing. We have worked directly with the community for 10 years. In partnership with the Fundación Archipiélago Juan Fernández, a Chilean non-profit organization, we will direct funds to projects identified by the community as being of highest priority. View the Fishery page for details about this joint effort with U.S. North Pacific fishers and other collaborators.
