Oikonos is partnering with the Penguin
Sciene Research and Education program to create an educational
DVD that aims to inspire and involve young people in the world's
climate crisis via the lives and studies of Adélie penguins.
Penguin Science is a dynamic classroom
DVD with companion classroom activities based on the on-going
research of leading scientists in Antarctica, David Ainley,
Grant Ballard and Katie Dugger, who are discovering how penguins
are coping with climate change -- retreating glaciers, fracturing
ice shelves, giant icebergs, increased snow fall covering nesting
grounds, and disappearing sea ice.
The team of multi-media producers, field
scientists and science educators is partially funded by the
National Science Foundation's Informal Science Education program
and private donations. Additional funding is needed to complete,
evaluate, and distribute Penguin Science.
